Florida Institute

Florida Institute

EDC manages the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research (the Institute), Florida's One-Stop-Shop for investors, entrepreneurs and corporate partners who seek to identify new opportunities based on technologies developed through publicly-funded research. The Institute facilitates new venture creation through commercially-viable technologies in major industries that are driving the global economy, including clean energy, life science, information technology, aviation and aerospace, homeland security/defense, and other emerging sectors.

Since opening its doors in 2008, the Institute has evaluated hundreds of technologies available throughout the state and worked with each technology transfer office to select the most commercially-viable opportunities and determine priorities. The Institute has also identified potential management candidates and angel and venture capital investors throughout the US who have an interest in Florida, and works to match commercially viable technologies with management talent and capital. For more information, click on the Institute logo above.

"The Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research has been extremely helpful in assisting University of South Florida in its efforts to commercialize new technologies. Through the Institute, we were introduced to two entrepreneurs who have evaluated some of our medical device and sensing technology opportunities, and who now have an interest in creating new companies to advance their development and market launch. The Institute serves as a great resource for the state, and we look forward to working together on more projects in the future."
