Who is EDC?

handshakeThe Enterprise Development Corp. of South Florida (EDC) is a nonprofit organization that assists emerging science and technology companies. Our mission is the development of an innovation-based economy through the creation of high skill, high wage jobs in key industries that are driving global commerce.

As South Florida's clearinghouse for entrepreneurs, EDC offers the BusinessLINC mentor/protégé program, manages the Technology Business Incubator located in the Florida Atlantic University Research & Development Park and Incubate Miami in Miami's downtown business district, and produces two major conferences each year to provide increased visibility for young companies. EDC also manages New World Angels, Florida's premier structured angel investment group, as well as the Florida Institute for Commercialization of Public Research, a statewide initiative to create new companies based on publicly funded research. Founded in 1994, EDC’s overall economic impact is in excess of $285 million.

EDC assists nearly 300 companies each year through four major initiatives:

  • BusinessLINC mentor/protégé program
  • Introductions to capital
  • Management of the Technology Business Incubator in Boca Raton and Incubate Miami in downtown Miami
  • Production of two major conferences that provide visibility and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs:
The Emerging Technology Business Showcase each Fall
  • The Annual BioTech Conference, hosted each spring by a South Florida university

EDC also participates in specific statewide programs that enhance the creation and development of science and technology companies. As a clearinghouse for entrepreneurial activity, EDC engages with local business leaders, investors, colleges and universities, government entities, and other public and private groups that share a commitment to Florida’s economic vitality.
