The Enterprise Development Corp. of South Florida (EDC), a public/private partnership specializing in providing strategic business development services to emerging science and technology companies, announced today that it has teamed with The Economic Development Research Institute (EDRI) to co-produce a half-day symposium to encourage small business growth in Palm Beach County. Entitled Accelerating Innovation through Entrepreneurship: Igniting Palm Beach County's Technology Industry One Company at a Time the event will take place on Thursday, August 24th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.

The symposium will feature experts who will discuss the role of entrepreneurship in any economic development strategy, as well as provide insight into how to gain access to capital and other resources, as well as information on licensing and regulatory issues, local procurement and networking opportunities.

"EDC and EDRI share a common vision for growing the entrepreneurial base in South Florida, and this symposium will offer information on global trends as well as practical advice on how to succeed with your new business venture," stated Jane Teague, EDC's Executive Director. "We are delighted to be working with EDRI on this important event and look forward to its success."

"EDRI, as a public policy research organization focused on economic development, is pleased to offer this symposium to help enhance public debate and understanding of key economic indicators, strategies, and linkages," stated Greta vonUnruh, EDRI Executive Director. "By working with EDC, an organization whose mission is to assist emerging science and technology companies, we will show how economic theory translates into practice for Palm Beach County entrepreneurs."

This symposium will be attended by 100 professionals and will provide entrepreneurs with key information on resources and incentive programs, licensing and regulatory issues, local procurement opportunities, and an opportunity to network with local companies, potential partners and economic development professionals.
